Belarus has participated in all Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) meetings on autonomous weapons systems.

Belarus has not yet declared its position on the negotiation of a legally binding instrument on autonomous weapons systems. At the 2019 CCW Meeting of High Contracting Parties, Belarus stated that ‘we believe in the need to provide appropriate developments in autonomous weapons in accordance with principles and standards of international law’, and that ‘we are opposed to indiscriminate, disproportionate use of LAWS and use against the civilian population’, adding that where LAWS are used, ‘it is essential that measures are taken to prevent harm against the civilian population’.[1]Statement by Belarus, CCW Meeting of High Contracting Parties, 13 November 2019, … Continue reading
